The Practice (1997 – 2004)

This is the prequel to David E Kelley’s ‘Boston Legal’, but it was much different to its successor. There were no moments of random silliness and shenanigans, or at least not until they introduced James Spader’s much loved morally challenged character, ‘Alan Shore’.

There have been a lot of Legal shows but none as gritty as ‘The Practice’. Dylan McDermott stars as Bobby Donnell who runs this tiny firm that defends criminals and is scraping by to keep the lights. As with such clientele, they are always busy going in and out of the courtroom. Some episodes left me with a dirty feeling after watching, but kept me coming back for all 8 seasons. It focused on a lot of ethically grey cases which is what made it so appealing to me. It may not be as entertaining as ‘Boston Legal’ but it is just as good, if not better. Make sure to watch it, there are tons of channels on youtube with full seasons.
