Being a huge fan of The Beatles, ‘Across The Universe’ was a movie I HAD to watch. Although it has received many negative reviews, it has also gotten many praises including from Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. The movie’s name, the character’s name, the story and ofcourse the music are all based on song by The Beatles, however, a huge amount was paid for the right and not to mention The Beatles at all in the movie.
Julie Taymor manages to make a beautiful story of two star-crossed lovers using the The Beatles’ songs as inspiration for plot as well as including the cover songs sang by the actors in the movie while keeping it relevant. The movie begins with Jude, played by Jim Sturgess, leaving Liverpool, England for America to find his Father. We go on to find many more well named characters such as Lucy, Maxwell, Prudence and Rita and many more as they make their way through the Sixties.
It was a pleasant nostalgic ride for me but this is an incredible psychedelic trip that you will definitely want to be a part of, for Beatles fans and others alike.
